Diagnosing and Managing Cervical Vascular Injuries

Cervical vascular injuries, though representing only 10% of vascular trauma, carry a significant risk of stroke and mortality if not promptly identified through screening protocols such as the Denver or Memphis criteria. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is the preferred diagnostic test for stable patients, whereas those with hard signs of injury, such as active hemorrhage, require immediate surgical intervention. These new AAST/WSES guidelines emphasize that rapid assessment and early medical therapy are vital to improving long-term outcomes for both adult and pediatric patients.
